positive degree is used for one person or thing.
similarly comparative degree is used for two person or two things.
A superlative degree is used for more than two people or objects.
It is said that degrees should not be crammed, we will learn to make degrees.
Rule no 1. If number of vowels is one in positive degree than comparative degree goes with( ER) and superlative degree goes with (EST).
POSITIVE DEGREE- SMALL, TALL, SMART,
COMPARATIVE DEGREE- SMALLER, TALLER, SMARTER,
SUPERLATIVE DEGREE- SMALLEST, TALLEST, SMARTEST,
Rule no 2. If number vowels is more than one than comparative degree goes with (MORE) and superlative degree goes with(MOST),but more and most will be added before positive degree.
POSITIVE DEGREE- Beautiful, handsome, proper,
COMPARATIVE DEGREE- more beautiful, more handsome, more proper,
SUPERLATIVE DEGREE - most beautiful, most handsome, most proper,
Rule no 3. If (E) comes in the end of positive degree than positive degree goes with (R) and superlative degree goes with (ST).
POSITIVE DEGREE- mise, like, brave,
COMPARATIVE DEGREE - miser, liker, braver,
SUPERLATIVE DEGREE - misest, likest, bravest,
Rule no 4. If positive degree ended with a consonant and before consonant if vowels presents, than comparative degree (goes double consonants with ER) and superlative degree goes double consonants with EST).
POSITIVE DEGREE- Big, thin, slim,
COMPARATIVE DEGREE - Bigger, thinner, slimmer,
SUPERLATIVE DEGREE - Biggest, thinnest, slimmest,
1) little-less, or lesser - least
2) far, - farther-farthest
3) fore(motion) - further-furthest
4) fore (number) - former, foremost
5) many(coun)- more - most
6) much (quant) - more - most
7) bad - worse - worst
8) late - later/latter- latest/last
9) old (age) older - oldest
10) old (blood) - elder - eldest
11) good - better - best
12) evil - worse - worst
13) ill - worse - worst
14) in - inner - inmost/innermost
15) up - upper - upmost /uppermost
16) out - outer - outermost / utmost
