IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUOUS TENSES

Continuous tense

All the continuous tenses describe running action which is happened at the moment of time or specific present, past, and future time.

Continuous tense is also called a temporary action, temporary action means an action which happens in particular time or at the point of time or over period of time in the past.

Note: The present continuous tense is used to describe an action that running now or continuing at present time. 

These helping verbs are used in present continuous tense.
Is/am/are these verbs always used according to subject.

"IS" WORKS WITH HE, SHE, IT, NAME.
"AM" USED WITH I. 
"ARE" USED WITH YOU, THEY AND WE. 

to make a positive statement.

Subject + is/am/are+ V1+ing + object.

Ex- he is playing cricket.
Ex- They are going to office.


To make a negative statement.

Subject + is/am/are + not +V1+ing +object. 

Ex- he is not playing cricket.
Ex- they are not going to office.

To make a Interrogative statement.

Is/am/are + subject + V1+ ing +object? 

Ex- is he playing cricket?
Ex- are they going to office?


Note: past continuous tense is used to show an action going on at a point of time or over the period of time in the past. 

Was/were helping verbs are used in past continuous tense. 

"Was" works with HE, SHE, IT, NAME AND I. 

"Were" is used with YOU, THEY AND WE. 

To make a positive statement.

Subject + was/were + V1+ing + object. 

Ex- she was singing a song.
Ex- we were watching a movie.

To make a Negative statement.

Subject + was/were + not +V1+ing + object. 

Ex- she was not singing a song.
Ex- we were not watching a movie.

To make a interrogative statement.

Was/were + subject + V1+ing +object? 

Ex- was she singing asong?
Ex- were we watching a movie?


Note: future continuous tense is used to describe an action that will be in progress at some time in the future. 

Shall be / will be helping verbs are used in future continuous tense. 

"Shall be" is used with I AND WE. 
"will be" is used with HE, SHE, IT, YOU, THEY, NAME. 


To make a positive statement.

Subject + shall be/will be + V1+ing + object. 

Ex- he wil be singing a song.
Ex- i shall be reading a book.

To make a Negative statement.

Subject + shall /will + not + be +V1+ing + object. 

Ex- he will not be singing a song.
Ex- i shall not be reading a book.

To make a Interrogative statement.

Shall/will + subject + be + V1+ing + object? 

Ex- will he be singing a song?
Ex- shall i be reading a book?
